Dream, Stream, and Everything In Between: What a Year of Building RMD Taught Us About Growth

Posted on 03Sep2025
By Jerome Marcelo

A year ago, my band and I looked at each other and said, “Okay, so we want to make this dream real—what’s the plan?”

Spoiler: there was no plan. At least not one that lived outside our heads. We had passion, we had music, and we had that unshakable belief that people would vibe with what we were doing. But passion without structure is like trying to jam without tuning your instruments—you might get through the song, but it’s not gonna sound pretty.

So we rolled up our sleeves and decided to build. Not just music (that part was natural), but the foundations of something bigger. Something sustainable. Something that could carry the dream beyond our living room rehearsals.

Fast forward 365 days, countless late nights, endless strategy sessions, and more “quick band meetings” that turned into three-hour marathons—we’ve learned a ton. And if there’s one thing we know now, it’s this:

👉 Having a goal is easy. Growing into the person (or the band) that can reach that goal? That’s the real journey.

This blog is our “album” of lessons—each track telling the story of how we laid the bricks under the dream, what it taught us, and why growth isn’t just part of the process—it is the process.

Track 1: The Social Media Shuffle

If you’ve followed us for a while, you know our social media is basically our second stage. Except here, instead of guitars and drums, we’re armed with memes, reels, captions, and the occasional “oops, did we just post that?”

At first, creating content felt awkward. Like—“wait, are we supposed to be influencers now?” But we quickly realized that social media wasn’t just about posting pretty photos or flexing a new riff. It was about connection.

We learned to:

Show up consistently (algorithm gods demand sacrifice).

Share our process, not just the polished product. Talk with people, not at people.

And maybe the biggest growth point? Not taking ourselves too seriously.

Because at the end of the day, our band is about joy, music, and community. If we can’t laugh at our bloopers, how can we expect anyone else to?

Track 2: Livestream Blues (Concerts in Pajamas)

The pandemic era gave us a gift: livestreams became normal. So, we leaned into it.

What started as “let’s just jam on Facebook Live and see what happens” turned into full-blown online concerts. We had themes, lighting setups, even ticketed virtual shows.

But livestreams taught us more than just tech skills—they taught us how to hold attention. In person, you can feel the crowd. Online? You’re staring at a camera lens, hoping Auntie Marites isn’t the only one watching.

We grew into hosts, entertainers, and troubleshooters all at once. It was growth by fire (and WiFi). But it showed us something powerful: music isn’t bound by physical space. Our community wasn’t just in Regina—it was wherever the stream reached.

Track 3: Networking Jam Sessions

Okay, confession: before this, we didn’t think about networking much. We figured, “Let’s just play and people will find us.” (Insert laugh track here.)

Turns out, relationships matter. A lot.

We started connecting with local community leaders, business owners, and event organizers. Not in a “use them for gigs” way, but genuinely learning about their work and finding ways to collaborate.

That’s how opportunities like Taste of the Philippines, Rakrakan, Ancop fundraising shows, Garahe streetfoods and partnerships came about. Growth here wasn’t about playing bigger venues—it was about realizing that dreams scale faster when you’re not climbing alone.

Track 4: Behind the Beat (Our Podcast Track)

Starting a podcast felt like saying, “Hey, we’re musicians, but also—we have things to say.”

“Behind the Beat” became our playground for conversations. We talked about music, community, branding, and the messy, inspiring journey of chasing dreams.

Here’s the growth part: speaking is way different from singing. Singing comes from the gut; speaking requires clarity, flow, and the confidence to hold silence without panicking.

Through podcasting, we grew our voices beyond melodies. We found new ways to connect, inspire, and share stories that didn’t need a guitar solo to land.

Track 5: Ticket to Ride (Online Edition)

Selling tickets online doesn’t sound glamorous, but it was a game changer.

Before, tickets meant paper stubs, chasing people down with envelopes, and praying we didn’t lose track of sales. Now? Click, pay, done.

It forced us to think like entrepreneurs. What’s the user experience? How do we price? What platforms do we use? Suddenly, we weren’t just artists—we were customer service reps, data analysts, and logistics managers.

That growth? It taught us that professionalism isn’t about looking polished, it’s about creating smooth, thoughtful experiences for the people who support you.

Track 6: Digital House Party

The website. Our social platforms. YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok.

Each one became a “room” in our digital house. And like any house, it needed upkeep, decorating, and occasional renovation.

Growth here was about discipline. Consistency doesn’t mean posting when we feel like it. It means showing up, even when the creative tank feels empty. It means learning SEO (ugh), video editing (double ugh), and scheduling tools (lifesaver).

We realized something big: music isn’t just heard—it’s discovered. And discovery happens online.

Track 7: The Growth Remix

Here’s what we learned through every social post, livestream, podcast, ticket sale, and website update:

Having a dream is romantic. Building it is gritty. Living it requires growth.

Every step forced us to grow in ways we didn’t expect:

From musicians to marketers.

From performers to planners.

From dreamers to doers.

And that growth wasn’t always comfortable. Honestly? Sometimes it felt like failure. But each time, we adjusted, stretched, and became a little more of the band that could carry the dream.

Track 8: The Bloopers Reel (Bonus Track)

Because let’s be real—growth isn’t just deep and inspiring. It’s also ridiculous sometimes. Like:

Filming a reel 20 times because someone kept blinking weird.

Having the livestream freeze mid-song (cue panic).

Accidentally emailing the wrong ticket link.

Recording a podcast episode only to realize the mic wasn’t on.

Those moments? They became inside jokes. Proof that growth is messy, awkward, and hilarious. And if you can laugh at it, you’re already winning.

Track 9: Encore – What Growth Really Means

A year later, here’s how we see it:

Growth isn’t a “step” in the journey—it’s the journey. Every plan, every strategy, every “let’s try this and see what happens” moment is a chance to stretch.

You don’t grow once and you’re done. You grow, then you grow again, and again. Because as your goals expand, so must you.

That’s what this year taught us: the dream isn’t waiting at the finish line. The dream is in the growing.

Track 10: What’s Next (The Remix)

We’re still building. Still dreaming. Still laughing at our own bloopers.

But now, we’ve got something we didn’t have a year ago: proof that when you put foundations under your dream, it doesn’t just float—it takes off.

So here’s to the next year of growth. More music, more livestreams, more podcasts, more community, more ways to stretch into the band we’re becoming.

And here’s the part we’re most excited about: doing it all with you. Because if we’ve learned anything, it’s this—growth is way more fun when you’ve got a community cheering you on.

 Your Turn

What’s a dream you’re building right now? And more importantly—how are you growing into it? Drop it in the comments. Let’s swap stories, trade laughs, and remind each other that growth isn’t just necessary—it’s worth it.

Because if there’s one thing we know, it’s this:

Dream big. Build bold. And don’t forget to laugh along the way. 💙
